In fact, recent studies reveal that in 2022, a staggering 21% of adults in the U.S. are classified as illiterate, an increase of 3% since 2012. Furthermore, over half—54%—struggle with literacy levels below the 6th-grade benchmark. This low level of literacy comes at a hefty cost, potentially draining the U.S. economy by up to $2.2 trillion each year.
